From the couple:
We met at the wedding of our mutual friends, Angela & Mikey (who happened to be part of our bridal party). Their wedding was on Oct 25, 2015 (in Hawaii) – which also happens to be Allan’s birthday.
The Proposal:
For our one year anniversary (and Allan’s birthday) in 2016, we decided to celebrate by going back to Hawaii – but this time to Maui and Kauai. While on a hike in Kauai, when we reached Waimea Canyon, Allan got down on one knee and proposed.
Wedding Venue:
Since the City Club of SF has an art deco (and very gold) interior, we just tried to keep things simple, so as not to clash. Which works with our personal style anyways. Simple + classic.
Wedding Styles:
Bride:
always knew I wanted a dress that was NOT strapless and not too form-fitting. My Sarah Seven dress was the only one to give me “the feels” when I tried it on. And I loved that it was easy to wear (ie. not too many buttons, bustling, etc or too heavy). I chose my DVF sandals because they were comfortable (for heels), so that I would be able to last through the wedding day, full of walking, standing, and dancing – and most importantly, they were in a color and style that I could continue to wear them after the wedding. I’m not big on accessories, so the only other accessories I wore were a Kate Spade watch I already owned, my wedding rings, and a hair clip that I found on Etsy – inspired by a hairstyle I found on Pinterest.
Groom:
A classic black suit, with white shirt and black tie. Hugo Boss patent leather shoes. Orient Bambino automatic watch. Allan’s suit (and the groomsmen) was custom-tailored from a formal wear shop right in our neighborhood (Nob Hill). Perfect for the wedding photos at City Club of San Francisco.
Bridesmaids:
Blush-colored dresses – Monique Lhuillier (maid of honor), Forever 21, BHLDN (shorter/knee-length). While it was important that we found dresses that matched our wedding theme/my dress, my next concern was that my friends felt comfortable in the dresses they wore, so I let them choose which style fit them best.
Groomsmen:
Dark gray suits tailor-made at the same local formal wear shop as Allan’s suit. We wanted something that would match with the bridesmaids blush colors, but was also different from Allan’s black suit – so that he could stand out.
Wedding Florals:
Honestly, that’s all thanks to the florist, Avonne of Rosedale Floral Design. When we met with her, we gave her Pinterest ideas of likes and dislikes. My only request was I liked dusty miller leaves and I wasn’t a huge “pink” girl. The Wedding Photos at City Club of San Francisco were really important to us. The ceremony had two large floral arrangements set up on both sides of the officiant, with curved branches to create a slight arch behind us. We asked one of our close friends be our officiant, and honestly, he’s the one that came up with the great speech/vows.
Songs:
Procession:
Turning Page (instrumental) from the Twilight Breaking Dawn movies — I am NOT a fan of the movies, but that song always stuck in my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Recession:
This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) – Natalie Cole. Centerpieces: Another Pinterest idea brought to life.
First Dance:
L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole – we wanted something somewhat upbeat and we took dance lessons so we didn’t just sway back and forth like we were at a highschool dance.
Wedding Décor:
We liked that submerged flowers in vases looked elegant AND were cheaper than huge fancy arrangements. We added seashells and pineapple and beach chair name card holders to give the table a beach feel, to remind us of Hawaii, since that’s where we met and got engaged.
Photobooth:
Added custom-made props of our cat’s face, Sean Paul, since he couldn’t join us on our wedding day.
Bridal Party Entrance/slideshow: incorporated the Golden State Warriors home game entrance theme song, since coming out together – we’re like a team! Plus we’re from the Bay Area, of course we love the Warriors!
Allan’s surprise video:
He told me to allot some time during the reception to play a video, but he wouldn’t show me or tell me what it was about. He knows I love to watch/follow fashion/beauty vloggers on youtube, specifically Jenn Im of ClothesEncounters. And he made a video about our relationship/proposal that was similar to a video ClothesEncounters had.
Party Favors:
Bags filled with what Allan loves most – chocolate! Peanut butter cups, Hershey kisses, White chocolate kit kats (it also helped that the wrappers of the candies matched our wedding colors!)
