About the couple: Leland was a barista working at the Starbucks I would do my homework at between classes in college. He knew me for about a year, but only by my drink order (I spent ALOT of time there). I knew him as the nice barista that sometimes gave me free drinks. One day, I was sitting reading a book called “Getting past your Breakup” for a homework assignment, and he sat next to me for his lunch. He saw the title of the book, and having just gone through a breakup, asked me if it was any good. I had a pdf copy of the book, and emailed it to him. (Yes, he started with my email address!).
From there, we learned we went to the same gym, so we would go to the gym together on occasion, and grab lunch but it was very friend centered. All of our friends and family thought something was going on, but we both adamantly denied it and claimed we were just good friends. A few months later, I was going to Disneyland for my best friend’s birthday. Not wanting to drive to LA alone, I invited him along. I asked my friends “can I bring this guy from Starbucks?” Shortly after that trip, we planned another trip to Disney for new years, and started dating shortly before that trip. That was just over seven years ago! We celebrated 7 years December 2023.
