Here is a photographer curated collection of photos from Niyati and Jacob’s fusion wedding in Oakland, California. The Indian bride and Swedish groom held their traditional Indian wedding events and Hindu rituals in intimate and natural settings valued by Swedish culture and design. It was an extraordinarily beautiful celebratory weekend full of family, friends, and love.
Mendhi & Haldi
The day before their wedding, Niyati and Jacob held a brunch party at their home in the Piedmont Pines neighborhood of the Oakland Hills. It was actually the first time the bride and groom’s extended families met and the set up was cozy yet festive to facilitate mingling and get everybody in the celebratory spirit. Guests were able to get their mendhi done by a local artist throughout the afternoon. They were also able to participate in the haldi ceremony, where family and close friends smear turmeric and rosewater paste on the bride and groom to help them glow for the big day.
Sangeet
Later that evening was Niyati and Jacobke’s Sangeet (dance party). It was incredibly sweet and beautiful. Our couple held their Sangeet at Pizzaiolo, a charming Italian restaurant in Oakland. The night began with a cocktail hour inside the restaurant, followed by a sit-down family style dinner that took place on Pizzaiolo’s patio in Oakland’s famous Temescal Alley. Niyati looked so glamorous in her gorgeous shimmering pink Seema Gujral ensemble and Jacob was dashing in his Qbik suit. Highlights from the night included dances and speeches from the couple’s loved ones, colorful Indian inspired decor, Pizzaiolo’s market-inspired menu and craft cocktails, face jewels on all the party guests, and a pop-up club inside the restaurant following dinner. Niyati and Jacob had massive smiles on their faces all night – we love being able to photograph events like this!
The Oakland Hills Wedding Ceremony
Niyati and Jake’s Hindu wedding ceremony in the Oakland Hills was beyond gorgeous. There was an abundance of delicate flowers, lovely weather, and touching vows. Niyati and Jake were absolutely glowing throughout the whole ceremony. It was a special day shared with friends, family, and a few happy tears.
Couples Portraits
Niyati and Jake’s couples portraits are so romantic and stunning. This was a great session, our couple was an absolute dream to work with. We were able to play with the natural beauty of the Oakland Hills, a perfect setting to showcase this amazing couple’s love!
Oakland Hills Wedding Reception
You could absolutely feel the love in the air at Niyati and Jake’s wedding reception, which also took place in their backyard. There was no formal sit-down dinner. Guests flowed casually through the couple’s fruit orchard, olive tree grove and bamboo grove. The ceremony area was flipped into a dance floor. Our couple had a classic two tiered wedding cake decorated in fresh orange and yellow roses. There was dancing, an incredibly touching speech given by the groom to his bride, and even a painter creating a portrait of the couple during the reception. It was the perfect ending to an even more perfect day.
