From the couple:
After a full day moving into their freshman dorm, Xavier knocked on his neighbor Elisa‘s door to introduce himself. He made quick friends with Elisa on that first day of college, especially when she was the only one in their hall who joined in on his puns.
It did not take long for them to become close, and as they shared more and more activities together, friends would ask: “So, what’s really going on with you two?” Xavier and Elisa would maintain that they were just best friends until a heart-to-heart talk. They’ve been best friends and committed partners ever since.
The Proposal:
After college, both Xavier and Elisa entered the healthcare field and have supported each other throughout medical school in long-distance cities. Xavier traveled to visit Elisa, seemingly as part of a normal weekend trip together. But a few tight-lipped conspirators had been keeping a big secret for months about a special jewelry box.
Plans were moving along smoothly until an uncharacteristically severe snowstorm hit! With the roads and transit at a standstill, Xavier spent all weekend planning romantic outings while nervously wondering how to propose. When the roads had cleared enough and with only a snowperson as witness, Xavier began to bend down on one knee… and just when Elisa thought he was about to start a snowball fight, he asked if she would marry him and spend their lives together.
Wedding Style:
Elisa chose her lace gown with ivy details after jumping around in the store, knowing its detachable train looked elegant and would also allow her to be comfortable on the dance floor. Xavier wore a midnight blue tuxedo, drawn to its classic yet personalized look. We encouraged our bridesmaids and groom’s attendants to showcase their individual styles, choosing their own outfits within the jewel-tone color scheme.
Ceremony:
We chose to get married at the Cathedral Basilica for its historical significance, in the city of downtown San Jose as well as a touchstone during Elisa‘s high school upbringing. We included Filipino and Mexican Catholic wedding traditions of a veil, cord, and coins to symbolize unity and prosperity. Special moments included Elisa singing the psalm with her sisters & lifelong high school choir friends as well as offering flowers to the Virgen de Guadalupe with Xavier‘s Abuela!
Our first dance was to “Always and Forever” by Heatwave, a song we would always jam to, even before we started dating. Our reception featured mariachi performances, and we performed a Pilipino cultural dance, reflecting our cultural heritages coming together in one huge celebration!
Reception:
The reception was held at the historic Hotel De Anza. Hotel De Anza wedding photos were important to us. An art deco venue with a semi-outdoor terrace where our guests enjoyed dinner and dancing. In addition to assigning numbers, we named each table according to favorite eateries from throughout our relationship. We designed our own wedding favors, personalized coffee mugs stuffed with Mexican and Pilipino treats! We especially wanted to remember our loved ones who were alongside us in spirit and dedicated a table of photos in their memory.
A Love Poem For The Happy Couple:
“I love you for what you are, but I love you yet more for what you are going to be.
I love you not so much for your realities as for your ideals, I pray for your desires that they may be great, rather than for your satisfactions, which may be so hazardously little.
A satisfied flower is one whose petals are about to fall. The most beautiful rose is one hardly more than a bud wherein the pangs and ecstasies of desire are working for a larger and finer growth. Not always shall you be what you are now. You are going forward toward something great. I am on the way with you and therefore I love you.”
