“Remember that the most important part of the wedding is marrying your best friend. No wedding is perfect. Things will happen. The stress is real and it’s okay to cry about it, but on your day, that all goes away because it’s about you and them and your love.”

From the couple:
Our theme was loosely based on Disney’s Tangled. Our centerpieces were floating candles as a nod to the lake scene in the movie. We didn’t use flowers as part of the wedding except for a few petals floating in the water with the floating candles for the centerpieces which you can see in these Quadrus Conference Center Wedding Photos.
Wedding Décor:
We personalized the wedding with help from our families. Our families made the signs that were hung around and they created the centerpieces. We made a slideshow that played during cocktail hour that had pictures of us from over the years. One of the best parts was how involved our families were in the wedding. Our siblings were all part of the wedding party. My sisters were were bridesmaids and Kevin’s sister was one of his grooms-people. My soon-to-be in-law was even the DJ for the wedding.
Wedding Style:
Kevin wore a black suit with a white shirt. Kevin chose to go for a classic look. I knew it was way too hot out for Kevin to wear the jacket and took it off of him after our First Look.
I knew I was going to wear a ballgown and be a princess for a day. Anyone who knows me knows that I loves glitter and sparkly things, so when I found my strapless, sparkling Cinderella gown, I knew it was the one. Besides the sparkles, I chose my gown because it showed off my tattoos and was surprisingly light weight and easy to walk in.
Our Story:
Kevin and I met when he was 17 and I was 15. I lived in California and he lived in Upstate New York. My cousin was his best friend in high school and one day, Kevin asked to text me on my cousin’s phone. We talked all day. I wanted to talk to him more. After my cousin got his phone back, I yelled at him, lecturing him about letting strangers take his phone to talk to me. Immediately after, I asked for Kevin’s number. My cousin informed me that Kevin had already taken mine.
We met for the first time in person almost a year later. My mom flew me out to New York to meet him. At 18 and 16, we already knew we were in love. Meeting in person only solidified everything.
The Proposal:
When he was almost 24 and I was 22, Kevin recreated our first date: the one he’d taken me on at 18 and 16. We walked through his hometown, shared a meal, and went to an overlook with a beautiful view. He turned to me and said, “I brought you here 6 years ago and I’ve brought you back here to ask you a question.” He dropped to one knee in the snow and took out the ring. “Will you marry me?” I had thought I would scream YES! That didn’t happen. I grinned, my breath taken away, and whispered it as I pulled him back to his feet so I could wrap my arms around him and kiss him.
Ceremony:
Our officiant, Alison, had given us questionnaires to fill out about ourselves and each other. These were supposed to be kept a secret from each other. There were funny questions that we loved and needed the answers to. The blessings of the quirks was an accumulation of our answers of what funny things the other does that we love about each other. We had been looking forward to that since we had started filling out our questionnaires.
The vows were something we also couldn’t wait to hear and were private from each other. I cried as I gave mine, but when you’ve waited 8 years to marry your high school sweetheart, things happen. The First Look was exciting too. We had fun with the whole game of keeping us away from each other before our First Look. It was like playing a spy game. We had our bridal party texting to make sure we wouldn’t run into each other before it was time!
Advice:
Remember that the most important part of the wedding is marrying your best friend. No wedding is perfect. Things will happen. The stress is real and it’s okay to cry about it, but on your day, that all goes away because it’s about you and them and your love.
