From the couple:
Chip (Robert) was living in Chicago at the time, but was visiting San Francisco, where Charles lived. A mutual friend said we had to meet and thus we did that night on the dance floor!
A year and a half later Charles proposed to Chip just off the coast of Australia after coming up from a dive at the Great Barrier Reef.
Charles proposed with a Tiffany’s platinum band with alternating diamonds and sapphires. They later got Charles ring custom made to match, except with rubies in place of sapphires.
Wedding theme:
All of our friends know us as travelers, so our wedding theme was a bit of a no-brainer. We used airplanes, vintage style suitcases, maps, etc to lend to the travel theme.
Wedding Style:
We got our suits custom made in Thailand. Picked out the fabric from shelves, took our measurements and two days later had a complete suit from scratch.
Our wedding party was from all over the country, so we chose The Black Tux since they were in all the major cities our party was from and mailed them ahead of time to verify fit.
Florals:
As for our florals, we loved the look of the yellow billy balls and white calla lilies were a perfect pair. The grooms had a mixture of both, while the groomsmen had just billy balls and the groomsmaids had a bouquet of calla lilies.
Ceremony:
Not because we’re religious, but we chose to get married under a chuppah (Jewish arch), decorated with white roses, greenery and lace. The aisle also had tins hanging from the chairs with white roses. We had guests blow bubbles at the end rather than throw bird seed. During the ceremony we chose to do a sand pouring.
Processional: A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
Recessional: Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
Reception:
Our reception was at McCormick and Kuleto’s in Ghirardelli Square. Our escort cards had a backdrop of a map to go with the travel theme. Also, our centerpieces were a mixture of highs and lows with blue delphiniums and succulents. We had a photo booth with an attendant which printed photo strips to be included in a guest book.
Our first song was Surrender by Laura Pausini to which we had a 2 minute choreographed number put together.
Our Advice:
If you want a custom suit from scratch that fits like a glove, visit Thailand! Even with your plane ticket and cost of the suit, it’s still cheaper than places in the US that do ‘custom suits’ where you have much less flexibility of fabrics and styles.
