Our wedding was very DIY and relied heavily on the talents of our friends (including live music, makeup, flowers, cake, DJ, and more).
Theme:
Our aesthetic was simple, relaxed, cheap, and whatever our friends were able to do!
Wedding Styles:
I knew I wanted a simple, strapless dress with lots of lace, and found one almost immediately after I started searching. I used Etsy to find accessories like a belt and hair piece, as I thought most of the ones in the stores near me were too large and gaudy. Michael‘s suit was made at Indochino in SF.
Our wedding party was two females, both of whom rarely wear dresses/makeup/anything remotely resembling wedding party attire. And they live on opposite sides of the country, so coordinating was going to be difficult. We decided to have them wear different navy dresses that they already owned to make it cheaper and more comfortable for everyone.
Wedding Florals:
We decided on sunflowers because they are large, cheap, and readily available at our wedding time. My friend was our volunteer amateur florist and told us how much of what other types of flowers and greenery to buy, then assembled all of the bouquets and centerpieces herself.
Venue, Ceremony & Reception:
The venue did most of the ceremony space decoration. Everything was perfect for the wedding photos at Aracely Cafe. Our processional song was Ed Sheeran’s “Tenerife Sea” played by my brother and a friend on guitar and cello. The recessional song was “You Are the Best Thing.” Our reception was at the same location, and much of the decoration was done by the venue.
Highlights:
Since my husband is Chinese, I changed from my white dress to a traditional red Chinese wedding dress for the reception. We were very excited about the wedding photos at Aracely Cafe. On the tables we placed mason jars with sunflower floral arrangements, floating candles in jars, and photographs of us as kids. There were also jars of bubbles on each table, which are part of an important story in our relationship. Our first dance song was Norah Jones “Love Me Tender.”
